The Spark: What was your "Aha!" moment that first pulled you into the world of amateur radio?
As a kid I was around Hams. Fascinated by radio and wanted to get into it.
The First Contact: Tell us about your very first QSO. Who was it with, and how many times did you have to check your notes before hitting the PTT?
Tournament of Roses Event Station in California on New Years Day on 10M from Maine. Sadly they don't do it anymore.
The Gear Head: If your shack was on fire and you could only grab one piece of gear (after family and pets), what would it be and why?
I just might die trying to save it all! But if I had to choose, it would be my Yaesu FT-847. Best rig I have.
The "Why" Factor: What is your favorite "niche" within the hobby right now? (e.g., CW, digital modes, POTA/SOTA, or building antennas).
Building stuff: Antennas, repeaters, baluns, etc.
The Lesson Learned: What’s the most "spectacular" mistake you’ve made in radio that actually taught you something valuable?
I tuned into in the 7.075-7.100 part of the band on SSB thinking I had privileges and another Ham in far Western Canada beyond 130deg gently set me straight. Lesson: Never stop studying. Read, reread, read some more, check references carefully.
The Future View: What is one goal you’re currently chasing—is there a specific award, a new mode, or a technical skill you're working to master?
I have several: Setting up a multimode repeater at my QTH, setting up a better antenna for 160 and 80, building "go" kits for events and EmComm, training for EmComm. Projects slowly rolling out on wb3w.net
The Elmer’s Edge: What is one piece of advice you would give to a new ham just getting their Technician license?
Get connected with a great club like W2WCR and learn from others.
The W2WCR Connection: What is your favorite memory or experience involving the Warren County Radio Club?
Getting to know Frank, KA5VVI, when I picked up a radio. He's an OG Ham, kind, generous, and wealth of knowledge.
I am just getting to know people. I love the comradery at the social events when I can make it.

Working with great folks who share the same toys

Unknown.
The Gear Head: If your shack was on fire and you could only grab one piece of gear (after family and pets), what would it be and why?
Programming laptop.
The "Why" Factor: What is your favorite "niche" within the hobby right now? (e.g., CW, digital modes, POTA/SOTA, or building antennas).
Helping others build /assemble systems.
The Lesson Learned: What’s the most "spectacular" mistake you’ve made in radio that actually taught you something valuable?
I would hope my mistakes are not "spectacular." LOL
The Future View: What is one goal you’re currently chasing—is there a specific award, a new mode, or a technical skill you're working to master?
Looking to begin my use of HF.

The Spark: What was your "Aha!" moment that first pulled you into the world of amateur radio?
I was at a ceramic class and the woman teaching it was telling us about her husband who was a ham. She was telling us all of his adventures and who he has spoken to in the world.
The First Contact: Tell us about your very first QSO. Who was it with, and how many times did you have to check your notes before hitting the PTT?
I have no idea! I loved packet radio at the time and had many adventures with it.
The Gear Head: If your shack was on fire and you could only grab one piece of gear (after family and pets), what would it be and why?
Tough question! Probably my HF radio.
The "Why" Factor: What is your favorite "niche" within the hobby right now? (e.g., CW, digital modes, POTA/SOTA, or building antennas).
I am learning CW and have been making a lot of POTA contacts, both CW and voice.
The Lesson Learned: What’s the most "spectacular" mistake you’ve made in radio that actually taught you something valuable?
Not to let ladder line touch anything! I don't know if this is considered "spectacular" but....I did learn that lesson.
The Future View: What is one goal you’re currently chasing—is there a specific award, a new mode, or a technical skill you're working to master?
At the moment, I am chasing learning Morse Code. I've been making pota contacts, next I want to skcc contacts. Baby steps :)
The Elmer’s Edge: What is one piece of advice you would give to a new ham just getting their Technician license?
To the future Technician, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Read the book, study, learn, and you're on your way to a wonderful new adventure.
The W2WCR Connection: What is your favorite memory or experience involving the Warren County Radio Club?
I have many memories, but my favorite is the caring and the help that people give so freely. It's these moments of kindness that leave a lasting impression, reminding us of the goodness that exists in the world.
